Denis Nowlan and his wife Jane Dowd are my 3xs GreatGrandparents. Their son William Nowlan is recorded as being born in India c. 1830, in the 1910 USA census of his son Denis a Catholic Priest residing in Northern New York.  Their son Maurice is born in 1834 in the 89th Regiments Barracks in Fermoy, Co. Cork.  I can find no Army pension for Denis so perhaps he left after Maurices birth and the family remained in Co.Cork.

Their son William my 2xsGreatGrandfather married Mary Walsh of Kilconly Parish in Northern Kerry and they lived and raised their family in Drombeg Townland close to the town of Listowel. From Williams son Maurices descendants, they have heard that the Nowlans came from Cork, also  a local Drombeg resident has told me "it was said the Nowlans came from Cork".   So although William Nowlan may have grown up in Cork is this where his father Denis Nowlan came from originally?
