Patrick Raftery c1770 wife Mary Ganley c1780 children born in Galway Ireland

Sons Thomas c1820  & Michael c1803 immigrated to Melbourne Vic Australia in 1841 and 1858 respectively Michael with 6 children & wife Honora Dunn.

Their brother Patrick b1810 Ballynageeagh stayed in Galway and married 1840 Ellenora Flemming b1811 their children born in Carrabane parish Galway.

DNA has confirmed 3 brothers so far. Michael c1803, Patrick c1810, Thomas c1820.

There must be more.

  • My 3rd great grandfather, John Raftery (1844-1866) was born in Ballinasloe, County Galway. I understand he emigrated with his family to Australia. My 2nd great grandfather was Patrick Bernard Raftery and my 1st great grandfather was also Patrick Bernard Raftery. My grandfather was Harold Sylvester Raftery married to Hilda Raftery (nee Fox). He was born in Dapto, New South Wales whilst Hilda came from Tasmania. They emigrated to South Africa when my mother, Doreen Patricia Wright (nee Raftery) was three. She was an only child born in 1930 and died in 1994. My own father, Samuel Wright (1911-1982) came from Strabane, Northern Ireland and emigrated to South Africa in 1948. I'm interested to see if we still have cousins in Ireland! (I know my cousins on my father's side - some are still in Northern Ireland.)
