Robert emigrated to New Zealand sometime before June 1875, this was the date he was married in New Zealand.
Robert's sister Matilda Aicken was married in 1876 in Ireland to a John Mundell. (see her marriage certificate below). The place of marriage was Randalstown. Matilda and John Travelled from Glasgow to Christchurch together on the "Cardigan Castle" arriving in January 1877. This marriage certificate states that Matilda's (and hence Robert's) father was William a farmer.
There are at least a couple of other Robert Aicken's located but neither of them are this Robert. One was a surgeon and the other married a Margaret Scott and they had children before and after this Robert's departure to New Zealand.
Still trying to locate definitive evidence of Robert's birth and mother and potential other siblings.
