Although under age at the point of application John Desmond Crowe applied and joined the RAF in the last two years of WW2. His age meant that he was obliged to form part of the ground crew and had the dismal job of servicing damaged and wrecked planes containing dead and wounded airmen that had returned to Lincolnshire. Towards the end of the wear and just after he was stationed in Egypt before being de-mobbed - where the photo of him sitting on a box was taken..The photo on the plane is a Wellington bomber.
