Born in November 1826 to John Cooke of Curraugh, Aughrim, County Galway. Mother might be Margaret Wakefield. This is substantiated by the fact that the property valuation listed "widow Wakefield" in a 1-acre lot on their property which might be the MIL? In 1850, he emigrated with his new bride Letitia Sinclair/St. Clair to Albany, NY where he stayed close with his brother David living in NJ. David's granddaughter Harriet "Hattie" is listed as living with Samuel in the 1900 U.S. Census. Samuel and Letitia had children: Reynolds, Letitia L, Robert, Samuel, Joseph F, David, John R, George B, and William.
Researchers beware, in a couple of records in the U.S., he is named Simon instead of Samuel, but the wife and children and all the dates and addresses match.
