Born in County Galway in 1802. About 1830, he married Bridget Egan, born in County Roscommon in 1813. Two of their sons, John and Patrick, were born in County Galway in 1932 and 1835. They migrated to Dubuque, Iowa, USA, in 1839 and farmed there. James died 13 Jul 1877 and Bridget died 10 Sep 1893 and both were buried at St. Philomena Cemetary, Asbury, Iowa, USA.
