Rsearching my family tree and I found out that my Great Grandad Thomas Lavin, and I assume his father before him John Lavin, came from Kilkenny and the Parish of Aghamore. This is noted on the 1911 census, as taken at the time he had already moved to Halifax, West Yorkshire. Born 1861 in Kilkenny, The Parish of Aghamore. Thomas married a Mary Ann Higgins (who was from Huddersfield but her parents orginally from Ireland too) on 28th November 1891 here in Halifax at St Maries Catholic Church, Gibbet Street.
I would love to hear about the place, any information regarding when and why he decided to move away from, what appears, a stunning island / Ireland. Possibly looking for work, as we had plenty of mills in Halifax.
