Stephan/Stephen Bergin 1835
Back to ListStephan was baptized 26 Dec 1835 in Moneygall Parish, Co.Offaly/Tipperary, parents Patrick Bergin and Mary Trehy, sponsors Michael Tuohy and Mary Ryan. The date of the baptism corresponds with the date on his tombstone in Watertown, Wisconsin.
However, on his marriage certificate in the US he listed his parents as Patrick Bergin and Ellen Carroll.
I have found birth records for three siblings: Austin born 1839; Mary born 1842; Ellen born 1844, all with parents Patrick Bergin and Mary Trehy. After emigrating to Wisconsin in the United States, he, Mary, James Bergin, Anna Bergin and John Bergin claimed to be siblings. I have no other information about Austin or Ellen. I have not found birth records for James or John with parents Patrick Bergin and Mary Trehy.
DNA matches confirm that descendants of Stephan and Mary are related. None of the descendants of the other siblings have been identified as having been tested.
DNA matches also show that descendants of Stephan and Mary are closely related to the descendants of James Bergin born between 1810-1815 m. first Ann/Nancy Cassin and second Anne Mooney. James' children were born in Ballybrophy and Knockheel in Co. Laois. I have no information on James or his parents.
DNA matches also show that descendants of Stephan are related to descendants of Patrick Bergin born about 1839 married Catherine Dunne. They lived in Tinnaslatty in Co. Kilkenny.
