John was a catholic born about 1801 He put Tomboholla on census in England but he frequently changed his age on uk census 1861 1871 1881 He has 7 children all born in Aghamore All but one travelled to England with him Mary was possibly married and remained or left for overseas America Australia etc..
The family are not on uk census 1851 but a daughter Margaret is married in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England in 1854 so i presume family arrived in Yorkshire about 1852/3
Did his wife come from Aghamore? or they moved Because all children are born there. Johns wife Harriet (a not irish or catholic name) b1806
I Have spent 20 years trying to find her surname but sadly nothing It is another guess John & Harriet married about 1831/2 as their first daughter Mary was born 1833
Have my dna and my mums dna tests done but due to lack of pre 1864 records am still lost for more data.
As john is my 5 x great grandfather I feel it my duty to keep searching.
In Hull the girls worked in factories and 1 boy Patrick b 1842 was a labourer and the other son John b1846 was a solicitor's clerk
Looking at the marriages and decendents of the children of John & Harriet Some died in WWI some stayed single or died Young so cousin link is not so strong except John who married Hannah Shipton I do have a website address for their decendants and am in touch with cousins but they know little of 5 generations back.
As many people from Co Mayo migrated to Hull in Yorkshire all around 1852 and all had addresses next to each other, went to the same church St Charles Jarrett St Hull and often married neighbours who where irish, it would be an excellent thesis/dissertation for a masters degree or PhD for someone to write Leading to an opportunity for a book on the irish diaspora in Kingston upon Hull as many folk today do have Irish great grandparents
So as I am elderly and unwell my dream is to know more about John & Harriet Duffy and just where I came from Would love to know Harriet's surname Where & when they married Where exactly did they live What did they do
Thankfully both lived to their 80's And as Margaret Duffy married Walter Lowery in St Charles catholic church in Hull that lead to my 2nd & 1st great grandmother My nana My mum & me
