Patrick Malley was born about 1831 in the Parish of Ballinakill, County Galway.  He was a Herd and I believe this is why he and his family moved around Connemara so much.  Patrick married Anne Barrett and they had 10 children; sadly four of those children died in childhood.  Eventually, Patrick and his family settled in Letterdeskert, a small Townland adjoining Carna.  Patrick found work where he could and, during the shooting season, he worked for the local Mongan family.  On the 1901 Census Patrick is described as a victualler.  He died in Letterdeskert on 31 March 1903 and was, I believe, buried in Moyrus.  Anne Barrett Malley died on 5 February 1904.

Patrick and Anne's eldest son, John O'Malley, was my great grandfather and married Mary Cloherty from Kilkierin in 1890.  John and Mary had five children, of which four survived.  My grandfather John O'Malley was the youngest, born in 1897 just three weeks after the death of his father.
