  • Mary McDonough was from Middle Quarter Inishbofin, County Galway. She was baptized on July 18, 1875, the daughter of John McDonough and Margaret Murphy McDonough.

    Mary came to New York City aboard the SS Teutonic and worked for a couple who had a store. She had two sisters, one of whom came to New York when she was 16 but she was so homesick, she returned to Ireland. Mary never saw her family again but kept in touch and sent them needed supplies during World War II.

    Festus King was born on January 20, 1873 to Patrick and Mary Murphy King in Claddaghduff (between Cleggan and Clifden) County Galway, Ireland.

    Festus attended the Claddaghduff School, a one room school house, and completed his schooling in 1885.

    Festus immigrated to the United States from Queenstown (Cork) aboard the SS Pennland arriving in Philadelphia on April 21, 1899. Also on the Pennsland manifest were:

    Julia King age 19 female
    Bridget King age 18 female
    Mary King age 55 Female and Married
    Maggie King age 4 female
    Those listed were reported as traveling from Clifden to Rankin PA (near Pittsburgh PA)to join brother Michael.

    Mary McDonough married Festus King in Brooklyn NY on June 15, 1902.

    It is unclear based on current information when Festus and Mary came to Pittsburgh.

    Festus and Mary became naturalized US Citizens in 1943. Festus received Certificate Number 5863988, dated June 29, 1943, on Petition Number 141186.
    Mary received Certificate Number 5863030 on Petition Number 140380 on May 10, 1943.
    Festus King died on August 17, 1955 at age 82 of a cerebrovascular accident and is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA. Mary King died on November 8, 1965 and is also buried at Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburgh PA.
