Bridget (Biddy) Moylan 1819

Back to List

Bridget was born in about 1819 in Ballingarry, Limerick. She married Daniel mcSweeney. They were recorded as Sweeney on their children's birth certificates.  Their eldest child, Hugh was born in 1845 in Kilrush, County Clare where Daniel was working as a Coast Gurad. When their dauther, mary, was born 28 June 1847, the family was living in Kinsale, County Cork where Daniel was a Coast Guard. His next posting was to Beer in East Devon where their younger son, Daniel was born in 1850. The next records show that the family was at Torr Head, County Antrim in about 1855. In 1860 Bridget signed a consent form to allow Hugh to become a Boy Sailor with the royal Navy. His naval records are blank and nothing more is know about Hugh. Five years later, Daniel was also signed on as a Boy Sailor with the Royal navy and was discharged in December 1869. In 1868, his father, Daniel, age 47 years,  along with four other Coast Guards, had been tragically drowned just down the coast from Torr Head. The daughter of Bridget (Moylan) Sweeney and Daniel Sweeney, married John McQuilkin from a small farm in East Torr, Culfeightrin parish, County Antrim, and they emigrated to new Zeland possibly beofre Daniel was drowned.

Bridget and young Daniel were the only members of the family remaining in Ireland and I cannot find anything about what became of them or where they died. I would be most grateful for any information about them.
