Born in 1822 to William and Bridget (O'Rafferty) Nugent, Anne Nugent married James William Kavanagh 10 Oct 1842 in Tullamore. They were the parents of 15 living children. Anne Kavanagh was a writer and French translator. She was the author of a book of short stories, The Gift. When she died at St Laurence Lodge, Sutton, on All Souls Day, 1863, she was 41 years of age. Her funeral cortège from Sutton to Glasnevin was accompanied by a number of clergy and professors - many from the Catholic University, where James William Kavanagh was a mathematics professor. The Freeman's Journal wrote, on Nov 5, 1863: "The deceased lady was an amiable and highly-gifted woman, and her loss will be long deplored, not only by her husband and children, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing her."
