According to the Tithe Applotment list of 1823-1837, my relatives John McCue and Michael McCue were listed in the Townland of Corbally, Parish of Clonenagh & Clonagheen in Queen's County.
Reachingoutireland.com researchers checked church records of marriages and baptisms for Michael McCue born about 1809 and found the family of Michael McCue (spelt McKew) married a Mary Dunne August 28,1825 at St. Michael's Church in Portlaoise, County Laois. Their witnesses were Anne Dooley and Bernard Whelehan. (I found the name of Whelehan interesting as Aunt Irene said it came up somewhere in our family history but she was not sure where)
This same researcher found that Michael and Mary had 6 children in Portlaoise (aka Port Arlington) County Laois (formerly Queen's Co and aka Co Leix)) as follows:Judy (could this be Julia ?) baptized Sept 16, 1828 godparents John and Betty Kelly Patrick bapt Nov 11, 1830- godparents James Conroy & Bridget Dunne Bridget bapt August 5 , 1833 – godparents James Conroy & Ellen Kelly Michael bapt March 16, 1836 – godparents Michael Dowling &; Dora Dunne (mother's sister ?) (my 2x Great Grandfather ) John bapt Jan 13, 1839 – godparents Edward Kavanagh & Catherine Dunne (another sister Fanny bapt June 7, 1840 – godparents James Dunne (mother's brother ?)& Anne Byrne Margaret McCue bapt Feb 3, 1833 was also in Portlaoise County Laois. Her parents were Edward McCue & Biddy (Bridget ) Dunne -godparents were John and Margaret Kelly.
I have determined that it is a reasonable conclusion to find that our McCue family originated in Marybone (Maryborough) Queen's County Ireland based on the family member names and place name given in Maria McCue Moran's NYS will. This information is somewhat supported by the list of McKew children baptized in Portlaoise, Queen's Co. Ireland. The Griffith's land Valuation also does show a Michael McCue living in Whitebog, which is nearby to Portlaoise. And finally, in checking Laois County, Ireland online currently, I found that the Dowling and Dunne families have remained in the Portlaoise area for many generations. They are named in a book written about their homes as they maintain 2 of only 34 Thatched Roofed old style Irish Cottages that exist today in County Laois. I will be pursuing contact with them and the the Laois County Council which assists with Geneological research.
The 1860 US Census shows Edward Moran aged 30-head of household, his wife Mira (Maria) also aged 30, son Edward aged 2 and daughter Mary aged 9 months. Also in this household were 3 McCues listed as servants at Mary aged 52, Julia aged 26 and Michael aged 24. Mary McCue was Maria's mother (Mary Dunne). I have Not found any evidence that Michael McCue ( the father ) emigrated to the US. Later, I found some evidence that Bridget and Fanny may have stayed in Portaloise.
