Rose Eagan Ward was born c. 1843 in Co. Mayo, Ireland to Matthew Eagan and Mollie unk. Rose emigrated, most likely via Canada, reaching Detroit, Michigan in 1866.
On 3 Nov 1869, 26yo Rose married 40yo Hiram Ward [b. c.1826-29 Canada] as his second wife. The marriage license lists her surname as “Green” so it is almost certain she had a prior marriage. A witness, Thomas Eagan [1843-1890], is believed to be her brother.
Rose and Hiram resided on his farm in Cottrellville, St Clair, Michigan, USA until his death in 1899. They added 6 to his 3 existing children: Thomas Hiram [1870-1960]; John J. [1872-1940]; Rose J. [1874-1944]; Matthew [1876-1946] Catherine L [1878-1942]; and Hiram James [1881-1960].
By 1900 Rose and her son Hiram had moved to 209 Canton Av., Detroit, Michigan. She lived in Detroit with one of her sons until her death 21 Feb 1927.
Rose was interred 24 Feb 1927 with her husband Hiram at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Marine City, Michigan. While Hiram’s headstone still exists, Rose’s is missing and all the remaining stones in the old section were rearranged. The Church denies having any records related to her burial, but a headstone reading exists. http://sites.rootsweb.com/~mistclai/cemeteries/cemeteries2.html
