Pictured is Micheal J. Murphy and Anna Hanley - both of Irish decent. They met and married in the United States in New York around 1900. They are my 2x Great Grandparents. I am almost positive Michael Murphy came from Collooney, Sligo. I believe his parents were Denis Murphy and Catherine McLaughlin (also from Collooney, Sligo). I believe Catherine McLaughlins parents were James McLaughlin and Ellen Fallon.
I am also under the impression that Michael and his sister Mary were the only two to travel to the United States. Mary traveled a few years before Michael I think. Michael arrived in the United States in 1897 and settled in Rochester, NY. His sister Mary started in Rochester, but then settled in Camden, New Jersey.
Michael had mutliple other siblings that stayed in Sligo. I do not know all of their names but I know he had a brother Denis, and a sister Ellen (who I believe married a Charles Harrison), I also believe there were two other sisters - a Catherine and a Margarette.
I have been looking for a document here in the states that proves Denis Murphy and Catherine McLaughlin as his parents. I found a baptism for Michael with Denis & Catherine in Sligo - but unsure how I can connect that Michael Murphy in Sligo, to my Michael Murphy in Rochester.
Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!
