My Grt-Grt-Grandparents, Patrick Daley & Bridget Rourke left Ireland (I don't know when) and married in Newcastle Under Lyme, England on January 20, 1859. While there, Patrick worked for the London Northwest Railroad and, per the 1861 English Census, they lived in the Hogshaw London NW railroad huts in the Township of Haufield? Bridget and their first 3 children were living in Leek & Lowe, Staffordshire per the June, 1871 English Census. And in July they left England for the USA on the ship SS Italy, leaving Liverpool on 07/04/1871, arriving New York 08/16/1871. Patrick was not listed with them. I assume he emigrated earlier to arrive prior to the rest of the family. Or, he could have followed behind for whatever reasons. But by the 1880 US Census they were all back together and living in New Jersey.
Patrick & Bridget raised their family of now 6 children in Newark, NJ. Their eldest son, Thomas, is my Grt-Grandfather. Once in the USA, the Daley name was changed to Daly, and Bridget Rourke was changed to Bridget O'Rourke. in 1887, Patrick Daly was still listed in the city directory as living at the same address as he was in the 1880 US Census. But after that I lose tract of both him and Bridget. The 1890 US Census was destroyed, and I can't find any death index or certificate, nothing from "Find a Grave" for either of them in New Jersey. I have a picture of Bridget with
