  • Hi,

I'm from (and still living in) the Killursa/Headford parish. I'm guessing Honor Spelman was from the Cahergal Spelman family as the surname is not that common in the area. All Spelmans I've come across through my own research came from that family. Do you have more information about Honor? Kyne is a relatively common name in the area - if you have more details about Michael I may be able to narrow down which family - or maybe you know the family he came from?

    Regards,

    Tim

  • Hi Tim,

Thank you for your response. The only other verified information I have is the name of their children. John born in 1865, Margaret 1867, Bridget 1869 and Julia 1871 all in Headford.

On the back of the photo of Margaret, it list her parents as Charles Kyne and Nora Conway. None of the paper trail lists those names though. Maybe Charles was a middle name from Michael and I know Nora was short for Honor but I don't know where the Conway came from.

From the dates of birth of the children, I'd assume Michael and Honor were born in the 1840's to late 1830s.  On rootsireland, there is only one Michael Kyne born in Galway between 1830-1850 and his father was Michael Kyne and mother B Corbet but I can't be sure that's him. Parish was Clifden for this Michael born in 1843.

There are three Honor Spelman's from 1830-1850 in Galway on rootsireland.  If I go with my gut, it's the one born in 1846 Rahoon District, Henry Street. Parents were Thomas Spelman and Mary Fleming.  I'll just keep that info in mind as I run DNA matches trees as I don't have any proof of kinship at this point.

I was really happy to find an actual town listed for any of my Irish roots!  We have a specific place to visit in May. :-)

    Thank you  for your time.

    Michele

PS Do you have a tree up anywhere or a gedmatch #?  I have 5  kits tied to the Spelman/Kyne line I can check against if so.
