My great great grandfather, William Dooley, was John's older brother. My records show that William remained in Ireland, while his daughter Mary and her sister migrated to Canada. I too am interested in obtaining ore information on the family. I have the father, Patrick Dooley, DOB 1790, married to Ellen Mary and living in Menlough. But that's as far as I get. Any info would be appreciated.

Had 2 daughters when they moved to Suspension Bridge(now Niagara Falls,NY to work on suspension bridge or RR) 1855 and 1857. Then emigrated through Canada to Plympton,Wyoming, Lambton co. Ontario with children born along the way. My great grandfather William Patrick born in Plympton 1866. Went back to Suspension Bridge and married a Catherine Sullivan in 1884.

Hello Tracy,
Thank you for the information! Do you have any additional information on John's family in Ireland - i.e. his father, mother, siblings? What was his mother's maiden name? Do you know where William's daughters emigrated to in Canada?
John landed in New York in 1847 and married Ellen Cunningham there. He met her on board the "Yorkshire" on the way over. They went to Niagara Falls, N.Y. where Ellen had family. Their first two daughters were born there - Joanna and Mary Ann. Later John worked on the Grand Trunk of Canada Railway which reached Sarnia, Ontario in 1858. He settled nearby in Wyoming, Ontario and died there in 1889. He and Ellen had 12 children altogether. One of their sons, William Patrick (born 1866) travelled back to Niagara Falls, N.Y. to live with his cousins (the Hartigan's - Ellen's sister's family). He settled there and married Kate Sullivan. Their oldest son, Joseph Francis, (born 1889) was my grandfather.
Any additional information and/or documentation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Tom

Hi Tom, Your information is very interesting to me. My father was the family geneologist and I am trying to continue to fill in the loose ends, as well as putting all of his research into ancestry.com. I do have his information on the family and it differs from yours somewhat. Unfortunately, his source documents are at my winter home in California and I won't be able to get to them until November or December. What I do have is an excerpt from his book which I can email to you if you'd like. Basically, his data shows John Dooley DOB 1830 died 1891. Wife is listed as Alice Hartigan, which is interesting because that name shows up as a cousin in comments. I'm sure it's the same family, as my relatives also settled in the Niagara Falls area on both sides of the river. I have the parents listed as Patrick Dooley dob 1790 wife Ellen Mary. No last name. They had 6 children. The oldest William was my relative. The nieces who immigrated to New York then to Canada were my great grandmother, Mary (Marie), and her sisters margaret and Sabina. Another brother, Martin, immigrated before the girls and is listed in the 1860 census of Welland County, Ontario. I have been unable to find that document and am hoping I have it at home. I would really like to trace the family back before Patrick and Ellen Mary, but the trail seems to not exist.
I created a link to my document. Hope you can open it. If not, send me your email. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3m7i1z2uiodwdiy/Dooley%20History.pdf?dl=0

Tracy,
I have an account on Ancestry.com called Dooley Family Tree. A cousin whom I've never met from the Niagara Falls area, Cynthia Dooley Uteriz, also has a family tree called Dooley Tree U.S.
I have found my great great grandfather's grave (John Dooley) in the town of Wyoming, located in Lambton County, Ontario, a little ways east of Sarnia, Ontario. The gravestone lists the year of his death as 1889.
John's wife, Ellen Cunningham, had a sister in Niagara Falls, N.Y. who married Richard Hartigan. (Can't remember her name but it is in my family tree.) One of John Dooley's sons, also named John, came to Niagara Falls around 1900. He "took up" with one of his Hartigan cousins and they "had" to get married. They had a son that they named Johnny Dooley. My mother remembers seeing him when she was a girl.
The census records are inconsistent in that John Dooley seems to have drifted in and out of his wife's life. Sometimes she ls listed on the census as a widow, other times as married, sometimes as "Hartigan" and other times as "Dooley."
My great grandparents, grandparents and parents are all from Niagara Falls, N.Y. My mother is our geneologist and she lives part of the year in Rochester, N.Y. and winters in San Juan Capistrano where one of my sisters lives. She has a lot of records but I have tried to put it all in Ancestry.
I'll look in the tree and provide more names and dates.
Thanks!
Tom

Hi Tracy,
Interesting attachment - gives me a lot of info - thank you! However, the listing of Patrick's 6 children shows John marrying Alice Hartigan. This is incorrect by 1 generation.
To reiterate: Patrick's son John emiograted in 1847 and married Ellen Cunningham upon arrival in New York. They moved to Niagara Falls, N.Y. where their two oldest children - Bridget and Joanna - were born. John worked on the Grand Trunk of Canada as a trackman and settled in Wyoming, Ontario (outside Sarnia) when the railway reached there in 1858. In Wyoming, they had Mary Ann (1859-1941); Elizabeth (1861-1942); John Martin (1864-1910); William Patrick (1866-1940); James (1868-?); Catherine (1869-?); Thomas (1872-?); Robert (1873-1910); Edward (1876-1931); Marcella (1881-1898).
It was John Martin who moved to Niagara Falls and married Alice Hartigan. Alice's mother was mary Ann Cunningham - sister of Ellen. Mary Ann married Richard Hartigan.
William Patrick also moved to Niagara Falls, N.Y. and married Kate Sullivan. William is my great, grandfather.
If you would like to send more info, you could send it directly to my email - motermtom@gmail.com - rather than communicating through Ireland Reaching Out.
Thank you !

Hi Martin, I just joined and see your notes to Tracey. We have been going back and forth on this family and I have found out this family is mixed with another. My John Dooley 1828-1889 does not belong with the others. Tracey agrees as we have no DNA match. My kit is on Gedmatch also A203495 Cynthia A Uderitz. What is the East Galway Project? Thank you, Cindy

Thank you, Martin, for your help. I have joined the East Galway Project and hope to discover connections there. As Cindy mentioned, we have concluded that our families are not connected, and must somehow untangle the information on Ancestry.com, as well as trying to find connections in Ireland.

Martin, Tracy Cindy,
Please excuse my ignorance, but where do I find my Ancestry DNA test data? How do I upload it into GEDmatch? I've looked through Ancestry and it shows the results of my DNA data, but no I.D. number or data cache seems to be available.
Thank you for your help.
