Her parents were William Tynan (1824-1894) and Bridget Carrigan (1823 -1909).

It is unknown exactly when she travelled to Australia, however she gave birth to her 1st of 11 children in Townsville in Queensland in 1879 and lived in Maytown & Brisbane in Queensland.

Bridget was baptised in the Parish of Clara near Higginstown, Kilkenny - Source - Catholic Registers, The National Library of Ireland; Dublin; Ireland; Microfilm 05026/02.

  • Bridget Mary Delia TYNAN was born in Higginstown, Kilkenny, Co Clare in 1855, as above.  

    I have her birth certificate, issued to me by a priest in Higginstown in about 1983.  

    Her date of arrival in Australia is uncertain.  There are simply no records in ANY Australian

    state of anyone with the same details as her, other than a possible entry to South Australia

    in about 1874 under the name of Mary TYNAN, who is the right age as Bridget would have been.  

    Some of her siblings also emigrated to Australia.  One was a priest in Queensland who later

    returned to Ireland, after falling out of favour with the Catholic Church.
