From townland of Carrowreagh near Limavady. Convicted as Irish rebel and transported to Sydney Australia. Died there in May 1839. Partner was Catherine Johnson of the First Fleet. He arrived 1802 and was an apothecary at Sydney Hospital.
He fathered 3 children with her but baby Tristram b. 1809 died soon after. He has many descendants in Australia by his first daughter Margaret Jane who married William Joshua Bowd. They lived in the Hawkesbury area near Sydney where he and Catherine are buried in Wilberforce Cemetery. He may have had a family in Ireland before transported at age 35.
I have done an extensive study of Moores in Carrowreagh and Carrowclare in Derry from 1700 through land records, Wills, BMD and other records. His father was likely also named Tristram as was his grandfather. His great grandfather was James who had 2 sons Tristram and Edward. The grandfather Tristram married 1710 Christina M'Cree. Grandfather Tristram also had a grandson Samuel who was either brother or cousin to Tristram who came to Australia in 1802.
In the 1800s Solomon Moore in Carrowclare which adjoins Carrowreagh had a son Tristram in 1815 who in turn had a son Tristram in 1850. It is likely this family is related tothe Tristram transported to Australia.
The name Tristram Moore occurs in America and Canada. In America a Tristram Moore in Chester County Pennsylvania had a son Tristram in 1750. One of them was a Captain in the Revolutionary War 1777-83. Senior d. 1811 and Junior in 1833 and both are buried in the Quaker Cemetery at Bradford (East or West?) in Chester County.
A William Moore of the Cape Anne Association moved from New Hampshire to New Brunswick in Canada about 1783 and founded Moores Mills (town). He had a grandson Tristram and great grandson Tristram and the later family moved to Savannah in the USA.
Tristram Moore is not a common name and I feel there is a connection between the Derry Ireland Moores and those in America and Canada from the migration of the 1700s.
If anyone is researching these Moores of Derry, America and Canada I would be happy to share my information.
