HANDCRAFTED DESIGNS FROM RECLAIMED HARDWOOD 

Carraig na Rón is a family business creating handcrafted wooden designs from reclaimed oak and custom-made laser engraved gifts. From his seaside studio located at the edge of Ireland, local craftsman Martin Clinton produces his original artworks for people all over the world. 

The idea for Carraig na Rón began when Fanad man Martin Clinton realised he wanted to create authentic craft pieces for the new visitor centre that had opened in his local Lighthouse http://fanadlighthouse.com/ 

Martin was inspired to invest in a state of the art laser cutting machine. He wanted to create items for tourists to buy right here in Fanad instead of shipping them in from another country. He thought – “I can do that” And so he did. 

But you can also go back decades to trace the beginning of this unique family business. The Clintons have lived in this ‘edge of sea’ place for generations. Martins Father, Eamon is a well-known local craftsman. A skilled and innovative carpenter, this is a man who can make something from anything. 

Martin remembers as a child watching his father craft and create in his woodshed the back of the house. Today Martins three children watch as their Grandfather, and now their father too, create and craft handmade items in their workshops beside the sea. With Carraig na Rón, Martin has developed a unique craft business where each piece is thoughtfully designed in harmony with a rich Gaelic history, stunning traditional skills and cutting-edge contemporary technology.

At Carraig na Rón we craft and create all sorts of designs from wood. Generations of our family have taken inspiration from the landscape that surrounds us and today, we carry on that tradition. From coasters and communion plaques to commissioned one-off pieces, house signs and retail labels - if you can imagine it, we can create it, bespoke for you.
