William Branagan (1820-1905) was a tenant farmer in Carricknamogil, Killybegs, Donegal. In 1868 he emigrated to the United States with daughter Rose (1850-????). His spouse, Jane McGonagle (1824-1907) followed him to the United Stated in 1869 with 5 daughters: Mary (1852-1916), Elizabeth (1856-1929), Ann (1861-1935), Jane (1862-????), and Catherine (1863-1914). They settled in Evanston, Illinois - a city on Lake Michigan immediately north of Chicago. William was a teamster. At some point the spelling of the family name changed to Brannigan.
Daughter Mary Brannigan, married a man of German/Prussian ancestry named William Loebbaka c1870. The Loebbaka family remained in Evanston where they raised their 11 children. William Loebbaka (1848-1926) was a tinner. His claim to fame / infamy was accidentally killing an Evanston police officer named George Daugherty.
Mary and William's eldest daughter, Mary Loebbaka (1873-1938), married John Patrick Wynn (1868-1930), the son of an Irish immigrant from County Sligo. John was an "Electrical Pioneer", a supervisor for Public Service, the local power company which provided electricity for most of northeastern Illinois. Mary and John raised their 12 children in a large house at 1111 Church Street in Evanston - very near the Lake Michigan shore.
One of their daughters, Isabel, is my grandmother.
