John Rand Mills : Short Biography

He, my great-great-grandfather, was born in Ireland based on the Minutes of Common Pleas, Warren County, NY, p. 389:

"...John Mills above named being duly sworn doth depose and say that he is of
the age of thirty three years [putting his birth date in 1805] that he was born in the Parish of
Ballyshehann and County of Tipperary in that part of the Kingdom of Great Britain called Ireland that
he embarked at Waterford [Ireland] in the month of July as he believes in the year 1835 and arrived at
the city of New York in the State of NY in the month of August and following that he has since resided in
the state of New York and county of Warren and still resides there."

He settled in Warren County, New York where he lived for the rest of his life, dying in 1876.

He married Margaret Ann Bibby (1824-1874), reportedly in 1839, and had 12 children with her, all born in the same county: Hetabella "Hattie" Belle Mills (1841-1912), Joseph B. Mills (1846-1900), Thomas Charles Mills (b. 1846), Joseph T. Mills (b. 1847), Edward E. Mills (1848-1918), John C Mills (b. 1849), Dorothy "Dora" Ann Mills (1849-1895), Margaret E. Mills (1854-1920), Mary Jane Mills (b. 1854), John Newton Mills (1856-1945), William Mills (b. 1861), and Robert Byron Mills (1862-1950).
