I and my 4 sisters will be visiting Ireland the first week of October 2024.  We are very excited to try and find the home (or just property now) where our ancestors lived.  Our Great-Grandparents were Patrick & Catherine (Walsh) Kyne (married in 1880).  Their marriage record says that Patrick's father was Michael Kyne of Ballyweeaun and Catherine's father was Patrick Walsh of Mill Park.   Patrick and Catherine (Walsh) Kyne had six sons all born in Ballyweeaun (we think).  Their names were:  Michael (born 9-24-1883), Thomas Francis (born 2-2-1887), Anthony Peter (born 11-19-1888), John Patrick (born 5-12-1890), *Patrick Joseph (born 2-12-1994) and William Regis (born 6-29-1896).  We have found the birth records for these sons.  In 1896, Patrick immigrated to the U.S. on the SS Germanic.  In 1900, Catherine (with the boys) immigrated to the U.S. on the SS Peruvian.  We found records of this but no mention of an address in Ireland where they lived.  We would really like to find out something that could help us with where Patrick & Catherine Kyne and sons lived before they immigrated. Also, any information on Michael Kyne (Patrick's father) and who he was married to and where they lived.  The same with Patrick Walsh (Catherine's father from Mill Park).  Where they are buried would also be nice to know.  We appreciate any help!  *Patrick Joseph Kyne was our grandfather!

    Looking for clarification. I looked up Patrick Kyne and Catherine Walsh family on RootsIreland (paid subscription) and found the following children listed John 1881, Michael 1887, Patrick 1888, Thomas1894, Ellen 1896, and Anthony 1898.

    There are records on Irishgenealogy (Free).

    Mary,

    Attached is the location of the townland of Mill Park in the administrative county of Galway. It is a small area on the road to Cornamona and Maam. Road Number R345.

    The likely place for the burial place for the families would be Clonbur. As the family emigrated, it is unlikely that there will be a gravestone.

    I will search Griffith's Valuation c1850's for Kyne in Millpark and get back to you.

    Roots Ireland also has a baptismal record for a Mary Catherine Coyne baptized in Clonbur with parents Patrick Coyne and Catherine Walsh. The date was September 23 1883. They lived in Ballyweeaun.

    Mary Altman:

    When did Patrick die? Ancestry has death records for Pennsylvania residents from 1906-1964. Perhaps his death document will show the parents. Also, just to clarify the family lived in Pittsburgh?

    I know your main interest is seeing where Patrick and Catherine lived in Ballyweeaun. There are two census records with an aged Michael Coyne as the head of household. Possibly one of the two is correct. However, determining where those houses existed is going to be very difficult to determine.

  • Mary, Please se attached Forms B1 for the townlands of Millpark and Ballyweeaun - 1901 and 1911 Irish census.

    Griffith's Valuation for 1855 did not record any Coyne/Kyne in the townland of Millpark.

    Ballyweeaun is off the R300 road to Cornamona as is Millpark. The R345 leads from Cong to Clonbur.

    Attached is Cantwell's record of cemeteries in the Clonbur area. The Kyne name may not be a connection to Catherine.

    You will be able to walk the area of your relatives and converse with residents.

  • Thank you everyone for your responses.  A couple answers to questions:  The connection to Millpark is "Walsh" not "Kyne".  It says on Patrick & Catherine (Walsh) Kyne that his father Michael Kyne is from Ballyweeaun and her father Patrick Walsh is from Millpark.  Also, there could have been a daughter born to Catherine & Patrick that may not have lived because there were only sons on the ship manifest to America.  We were always told there were only sons.  Patrick died in 1903 (only 3 years after Catherine and the sons came to America).  There was no record with his parents names back in Ireland.
