Hi Deborah,
I took a look at the South Australia genealogy website genealogysa.org.au to see if I could get more information about Michael and Bridgey Darmody. Michael was recorded on a data base for passengers who arrived into South Australia. However the data base says that the information I was looking for was not recorded for Michael, ie, Place and date of birth, where he embarked. Other information was withheld for members only but it might be worth your while at least visiting the site.
As you don't know where in Ireland the couple came from I took a look at https://www.houseofnames.com/darmody-family-crest which does mention a Michael Darmody arriving in South Australia in 1840.
Parish records for 1815 to 1840 gave a few Darmody but more Dermody principally in Dublin. https://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/
I hope this is of some help.

Hi,
Do you know approximately how old they were. Did they have children in Ireland. I assume they had children in Australia??
Have you checked their birth marriage or death records? Sometimes the parents are mentioned.
RootsIreland Record (paid subscription. Maybe?

Sorry, I just discovered this couple had children in Tipperary after 1840 so they can't be the couple you are searching for.

I think Eileen and my messages crossed. I was referring to the Michael who married Bridget Dunne that did not fit the 1840 arriving in Australia profile.

Thank you to Majella, Mary and Ellen for getting back to me so quickly.
I think that Ellen you have found them, sorry that I didn't give you more detail to begin with. I didn't know Bridget's maiden name though but I know that they were both buried in Mt Barker South Australia and that they sailed on the Birman in 1840 I think from Carragough. My records say they had 5 children I think the 1st may have died Dau Born 1826 Died 1827 then there was Michael Peter Born 1829 ; John Peter Born 1833; William Jonn Born 1838; Lawrence Born 1844 in Green Hills and Annie Born 1841 in Adelaide.
I thought that they may have come from Borriskane Tipperary but not sure. I did try to get on to the site that you suggested but for some reason I couldn't log into it.
Thanks so much for your help! I am hoping to go there in September so it would be wonderful to find some relatives.
Warm regards

Hi Ellen,
Thank you for finding the Ships details, that's great. I think I found that they lived in Borriskane, Tipperary but I'm not sure, is there any way of finding if they still have family in Ireland? I am coming to Ireland in September and was planning on visiting Borriskane, it would be wonderful to be able to meet up with any relatives still in Ireland.
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.
Warm regards

Deb,
I don't know if they still have family in the area but per RootsIreland they had 3 additional children- Catherine 1819, Philip 1821, and Mary 1825.
