Can anyone tell me the best place to view COI record online

  • The vast majority of COI records are not on-line. There is a project to put them on-line (being run by the RCB library in Dublin) but it has a long way to go. And it’s worth bearing in mind that about 40% of the original records were destroyed in the 1922 fire at the Public Record Office in Dublin during the civil war.

    A smallish number of COI records are on the irishgenealogy site, and eventually that’s where the others will go. Rootsireland (subscription site) has some COI records but not necessarily all possible years for each of the parishes it does have.

    The RCB library’s list tells you what records exist and where they are stored. In many cases the only way of seeing the records is to go to either the RCB library in Dublin, to PRONI in Belfast (for Ulster records) or to contact the current Rector/Vicar, depending on who has them.
