Dennis and Ellen were both from Cork - whether it's the city or just the larger county, I'm not sure - and they emigrated to London, marrying in Southwark in September 1835. Annoyingly, before fathers' names were mandatory on certificates. According to the 1851 census, Dennis was born in 1817 and Ellen in 1819. Living with the family were lodgers I assume to be Ellen's brothers, Charles and John House, born in 1834 and 1836 respectively. The census may have a mistake as Ellen's death in 1891 has her as born c. 1816, but I'm unclear on that. I might have Dennis' baptism - 20 July 1817 in Cork City to Jerry (Jeremiah?) Mullins and his wife Mary, maiden name McCarthy. Mary might have died in Surrey in 1844, however this might be a red herring. As for Ellen, Charles and John... nothing. I've tried every variant of House I can think of - it's spelt Howes in other places - but nothing's come up, and it seems impossible to find Charles or John after 1851, to find out if they have marriage certificates. Other than Dennis' baptism and that census that has had me going in circles for YEARS, is there ANYTHING solid about a Mullins or House/Howes/How(e) family in Cork from that time? I'm starting to think this is genuinely impossible.

The paid site Roots Ireland has the following births for Howe children in the RC parish of Kilworth....baptism's in that parish began in 1829, so Ellen will not have a record.
Perhaps these are her siblings....their parents are all John Howe and Honora Bastable
Catherine Howe, 25 Apr 1832, sponsors are Maurice Sheehan & Margaret Baker
John Howe, 25 Jan 1835, sponsors are Thomas Ahern & Mary Roche
Honora Howe, 4 Jun 1837, sponsors are Patrick Armond & Catherine Howe
Charles How, 17 Nov 1839, sponsors are William Strangman & Catherine Condon
Mary Howe, 4 Apr 1842, sponsors are Redmond Baker & Johanna Armour
Joseph Howe, 14 Aug 1846, sponsors are William Connors & Mary Howe
Given that the above birth years are relatively close together, and Ellen's year of birth is between 1816 & 1819, these could be younger cousins to her OR not her family at all!
The lodgers you mention, Charles & John, could be these two above, but not her brothers.

Carolyn

Correction...those are baptism records, not birth records. Also, just because there is a baptism record from Cork City of a Dennis Mullins, doesn't mean that it is your Dennis. Not all RC parishes in Cork have baptism records back that far...he could be from elsewhere. Do you have their death records, and do they show their parents'names?

In the Tithe Applotment Books for Cork, there was a head of household called Dennis Mullins:
Mullins Denis Rearour Kilbonane Cork
The entry was not dated, but these records are generally 1820s to 1830s.
