I am interested in finding out about my husbands grandfather and his family. His name was Denis O'Connell born approx1884. I have his father as John, Mother Nano, Brother Maurice and sister Julia. According to service record he enlisted in the Royal Munster Fusileers on 23/08/1902.
Denis met his wife and married and settled in Devon, England in 1919 and sadly passed away at the age of 50 in 1935. At the time of his passing his children were all very young and never had any information to pass down the line and as all of my husbands family are now deceased we have no information on the Irish side and would love to find out more. I have looked on the various census and birth records and marriage for a John and Nano but wonder if Nano may be a 'nickname' Obviously I understand that the family may not actually be from Buttevant, I believe there was a barracks in the town so maybe a military family?
Any help/information/advice very much appreciated.

If the August 1876 marriage record above is correct, I found on Ancestry in the Ireland, Casey Collection the record which included John and Hannahs' parents' names.
John's, a laborer, father was Daniel, a laborer.
Hannah's, a nurse, father was Jeremiah, a gardener.

Many Thanks for this information. This looks very promising. Date of birth for Denis recorded on his army papers is 1884/1885 (not sure which at this moment - will need to get them out and take a look) so baptism date of 1882 seems unlikely but on the other hand I does link with the information I have on brother, sister and parents.
