Michael Cleary b 18831 Co Kildare, migrated to Australia 1857 cont.

This information may have already been given.  Thomas (b. 1839) and Patrick (b. 1829) were born to Thomas and Elizabeth Cleary.  I also show a son, John Cleary, born 8 Sep 1834 to Thomas Cleary and Bess Cleary in Collinstown, Kildare.  Bess, of course, is a familiar form of Elizabeth.  The sponsors for this birth are John Byrne and Bridget Byrne.  My guess is that is why you are interested in the Byrne family.

If I can give you additional information on this family, please let me know.  But in the meantime, if you would like to have a local volunteer meet you in May when you are in Ireland, please submit the form attached form.  https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet  You would be amazed what the local volunteers know about your ancestral place.  There is nothing like walking in the shoes of your ancestors.

I appreciate you taking the time to check out my Cleary line.

While I did have John Cleary’s 1834 baptism with John & Brigid Byrne as witnesses, it’s only recently I’ve started looking into a Byrne connection.

The main reasons I’m looking at the Darcy/Byrne link are as follows:

I knew Michael Cleary and Anne Langan were married in Liverpool, 1857 - from Birth Certificates from Australia. A DNA match shared Michael & Anne’s UK Marriage Cert. with me. The witnesses were Patrick McDonough and Eliza Darcy ( aunt/ mother/ cousin?)

Re the possible Byrne connection: As well as Byrne witnesses at John Cleary’s baptism, I have quite a few Ancestry DNA matches with people who share Byrne family originating in Baltinglass, Co Wexford.

I have only found one baptism for an Eliza Darcy, born 1809, to Michael Darcy & Bridget Darcy (no maiden names listed) at Baltinglass, Wicklow & Kildare. Then it gets pretty “hazy” as some matches claim Bridget Darcy’s maiden name may have been Byrne , but no concrete evidence yet…..

It’s quite tantalising finding the DNA Byrne matches but I can’t find any Darcy matches to link Byrne to Cleary - which is where I started.

I would love to find out more.

And I will most certainly follow the link to see if I can meet a volunteer while we are in Ireland- at the moment we are still planning our trip but I’ll be in touch very soon. Thanks again for your help and I hope you can make sense of all this!

A local volunteer would be happy to schedule a meeting with you and your family in Ireland when you are there.  While it is not a "tour", they will have information that you will be able to include in your searching.  These are people who live in the area and the information is invaluable.
