Following up on a DNA match from Australia, I came across a tombstone (image attached) with the inscription "Catherine Fitzgerald, born in Ennis Co. Clare Ireland who died at Reid's Creek 25th Sept 1887, aged 47 years". This led to a marriage certificate where Catherine listed her parents as James FItzgerald (farmer) and Mary Slattery (image attached, my spelling for mother's surname may be wrong, but note that no t's have the cross bar in this record).
Checking Townlands.ie and SWilson, I don't see a townland in Clare called Ennis. Can anyone help me place Catherine Fitzgerald in County Clare?
Thank you,
Nancy Moffett

Nancy,
Ennis is a RC parish (also known as Drumclift) in Clare...it is not a townland. The baptism records for that parish began in 1841. A good site to find baptism and marriage records is the clarelibrary.ie (a free site)...you can search by the DOB as well as the parents' surnames. I looked for Catherine or any siblings with those parents, but did not find any records. However, there are records there of different Fitzgerald males and GALLERY females as parents to children. Do you think her mother's surname could be Gallery? It is difficult to tell in that marriage record.
Regards,
Carolyn
