Hi we were wondering if anyone could help us locate a John Francis Maloney born c1866? We cannot find any birth/death/residence records and all we have to go on is he came from Co Galway. We know that his parents were Bernard Maloney born c1840? and his Mother Mary Cain born c1840?
We are really struggling to find any early information for the family, we have later records but want to find their origins?
Thank you in anticipation

There are records for what appear to be your John Francis Maloney, his parents (with the names you gave), and some siblings in the FamilySearch database:
If you search there, you can find John Francis under ID number GVRK-KB7, and can access the records for the others easily through that record, as you will see. His birthplace in Galway is not stated, but the record for his brother Michael shows Michael as residing in the townland of Gortnadeeve East in Galway at the time of the 1911 census, so you could look for further records there. Also, in each record, at the right hand side of the screen, you can see the screen names of those who have created or modified the record, and can send them private messages, so you might be able to get more info by contacting them (and perhaps also locate some relatives that way).
The database does not have separate family trees, and is essentially one huge tree of linked records, in which there is a single record for each person, with a unique identification number, although sometimes people unknowingly create duplicate records for the same person, which you can merge when you spot them. In fact, there are several likely duplicates shown at FS for your family. Before trying any sort of merge, I recommend that you take a class in working with FS. They are held (for free) at all LDS Family History Centers, and may be available online as well. It’s a great database, probably the largest in the world (Ancestry was created using its records, originally)
You can see more info about Gortnadeeve East at this link, along with an interactive map and links to further sources.

Gortnadeeve is in the civil (administrative) parish of Ballynakill, but I’m not certain in which Catholic parish it is located (Catholic and civil parishes do not always have the same boundaries, or even the same names). Comparing several maps, I think it is the parish of Glinsk (which also goes by several other names). The parish registers for Glinsk are available online back to 1836, so you may find useful info there. You can access them online at this link:

Thanks but I've already tried those ideas of private messaging people whose family names are like ours to no avail. It still doesn't get me any information for the early years of John Francis Maloney and his parents.
I'm at a loss as to what to try, they must have existed somewhere?

I'm confused by your answer. You don't have to contact anyone if you don't want to, but I gave you a likely location for your ancestors. You can search the records I indicated by yourself, and see whether you find relevant records there.

I'm sorry if I've confused you with my answer, I never intended to. I have recently messaged people on Family Search but I didn't find any clear new information unfortunately.
I did find a Mary Cain from my own research but also noticed that there are so many Mary Cains with the same dates that I'm not sure as to which one she would be and don't have any exact information for her that would give me an exact indication. I can't find any Bernard Maloney's with the same information as I have, but I'll keep on trying I have also looked at the websites you sent me but nothing new has come to light.
Thank you for your help and hopefully I'll come across something one day, many thanks.
