Hi

I'm not really sure where I start as I've tried for information on our family before but think I went about it the wrong way round as I already had some of the information that was given to me. So I'll try this way....

We're looking for a John Francis Maloney c1866? possibly from Co Galway but not 100% sure and his wife Norah also not sure of where she came from, unfortunately we have no maiden name for her either so it's proving very difficult.

We do know that they had a son and it looks like there was a daughter also, if there were any more children we are not aware of them.

We were researching my husbands Grandfather and up until seeing his marriage certificate we didn't even know what their Christian names were. That is about all we have to go on, if anyone out there has any ideas as to where we go now they would be most appreciated.

  • Hi,

Perhaps some more data would help us.

Did John and Nora marry in Ireland or another country? Any idea when?

Did they die in Ireland or another country? Any idea when?

What were the names of John and Nora's children, in order.  Where were they born, married, died?

    Thank you.

  • Hi thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately as I said earlier we have no information at all for John or Norah other than their names on their sons marriage certificate, so we have no idea where John and Norah married or in what year.

We also have no idea if they died in Ireland or in what year.

Their son was called Bartholomew Maloney and he was born on 24th August 1897 we can't find any birth record in England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales. We do know he married his first wife in 1922 in St Helens, Lancashire, England and married his second wife in 1938 also in St Helens. We also know he died and was buried in St Helens on 7th January 1968 as we have his death certificate.

Their daughter was called Margaret A Maloney born on 17th October 1900 once again we can't find any birth record in England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales. We also know she was married in St Helens, Lancashire, England in June 1936 and died and was buried in St Helens in 1940.

    Thank You

  • I believe your family may have lived in the U.S. for a while.  I found three children born to Nora Tighe Maloney and John Maloney, as follows.  Margaret Ann's birth date is off by one day. Bartholomew was born 24 Aug., but a year earlier than you have for him.  Then there is another child, who died in infancy. And Nora, buried in 1908 in Mass.

    I hope this is helpful.

  • Hi Patricia

At last I think you have found something that ties in with our family so pleased and can't thank you enough, it looks like this is the reason we haven't been able to find any birth records for Bartholomew and Margaret in England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales. I have looked at the information you sent and it seems that it is too much of a coincidence not to be them, it also would seem there was  another 2 sons a Michael Francis Maloney 30/6/1898 and a John Edward Maloney 19/10/1902.

I've also been looking on the 1911 census in  Ireland and I found a John Maloney and 3 of his children (Bartly could be short for Bartholomew,Margaret and John) living with his brother Michael Maloney in Gortnadeeve, East Creggs, Co Galway it states John was a widow which would tie in with Norah dying in 1908.

We were wondering where John Francis Maloney would have died and were he'd be buried? In Ireland? And in what year??

  • Thanks Patricia for your help and information, I've had a look and surely it's got to be them.

I've also seen a death for a John Francis Maloney in Glennamaddy Co Galway in 1924,  but there's also a John F Maloney in Boston Massachusetts in 1925 so not quite sure which one would be our John Francis Maloney?

Any ideas as you seem to know what you're doing, I'm still a novice.

  • Can you find the death records? Also, perhaps look for an obituary or death notice for the JF who died in Glenamaddy.  Irish News Archives is a good place to search.  And look for the 1925 death in newspapers.com.
