My 3x great grandmother Ellen Callaghan was born in Cork in 1831. She was married to Thomas Brown in Greenwich London in 1855. She lived out her life in nearby Eltham. I just was wondering if anyone knows the actual port of disembarkation in London where Irish people travelling from Cork arrived at. Was it Woolwich? I know that most Irish living in Woolwich, Greenwich and Eltham area in around the 1840’s/1850’s came from Cork.
Many thanks in advance.

Slater’s Commercial Directory for 1846 lists regular sailings from Cork to London, Bristol and Liverpool. So I’d say it’s a choice between London and Bristol. The railway from Bristol to London opened in June 1841 so if Ellen's arrival was after that, I’d guess she took the ferry to Bristol and then the train to London.

I found this online about Irish people arriving in the area where Ellen settled.
