I'm searching for my Great Grandmother and her family. She was Sara (or Sarah) Angela McGovern, born in Balla, Mayo on 16th October 1875. Her parents were John McGovern & Biddy McHue (or McHugh). They were probably a Catholic family. She married Hugh O'Callaghan from Drumnacraig, Donegal and they and their children moved to Richmond in SW London, England around 1920. Sara died in 1951.
Sara was a poet, we have snippets of her work which may actually be the words to songs. Her daughters had a strongly creative streak and a lifelong love of and identification with Ireland. One of Sara's daughters was a well recognised poet. I'd love to know more about Sara's parents and the family she came from.

Zenac C,
Perhaps when Irishgenealogy is back up more information can be found. Per RootsIreland Sarah was Catholic. Her parents were John McGovern and Bridget McHugh. They had at least 5 children in Carramore (sp), Balla, Mayo. Hugh O'Callaghan was a Mounted Constable of the RIC. Their children were born in different locations Bridget 1902 Abbeyfeale; Limerick; Mary Margaret 1903 Abbeyfeale, Limerick; Patrick Joseph 1908 Londonderry, Derry; Eveline Frances 1909, Londonderry, Derry; and Irene Josephine, 1911, Londonderry, Derry. There might be more?

Zena C.:
I did not find a marriage record for John and Bridget. Possibly there were married in a parish that does not have marriage records back to 1860. Looks like they were married before civil registration for RC marriages in 1864/
On the subscription site Roots Ireland I located either baptismal or birth records for siblings of Sara.

Zena C-
Irishgenealogy is still not available for checking records but I did find info on Ancestry that might be inconsistent with who Sarah's parents were.
Hugh Callaghan and Sarah Angela McGovern have a burial site at Derry City Cemetery, Londonderry. You can find on FindaGrave.
Hugh O'Callaghan (1872-1944) - Find a Grave Memorial
Attached info (Note- Sarah's parents were shown as unknown)
'Hugh Callaghan was born near Milford in County Donegal in 1872, the son of Patrick Callaghan, a farmer and his wife Bridget (formerly Friel). He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary on 24 June 1893 (RIC Service No. 55926).
From 1896 he was a mounted officer until his promotion to sergeant in 1917.
Hugh served in Mayo, Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Derry and Roscommon.
He left the force on 4 April 1922 when it was disbanded.
He married Sara Angela McGovern from County Mayo on 1 December 1900 and they had five children together. Hugh died in London on 11 June 1944 and is buried in Derry City Cemetery.** The name 'Callaghan' appears on Hugh's RIC record, his birth and marriage record. The name O'Callaghan appears on his gravestone erected by his children in the City Cemetery.'
On Ancestry there is a Marriage record for a Hugh O'Callaghan and Sarah McGovern, Sarah's parents are different.

Zen, this might be a coincidence but I thought I would bring it to your attention. I haven't found John McGovern and Biddy McHugh's 1901 census records? Maybe they had left Mayo or passed away?

Zen,
Based on the information above- If Sarah was born in 1872 to James McGovern and Mary Biggins, her family lived in Ballygarris, Kilcommon and Robeen Parish, Hollymount District. Her siblings were Patrick 1857, Elizabeth 1859, Mary Ann 1865, James 1867, and Thomas 1869.
It looks like her father James was a publican that died in 1900 at age 74. RootsIreland identifies Mary McGovern, wife of a publican dying in 1877, age 45, in Hollymount. Maybe Sarah's mother?
James' death record.
