Hello friends,
Researching Ponsonby family that has been Irish for more than 350 years. We're Anglo-Irish - please don't hold that against us!
My husband's oldest known ancestor is Patrick Ponsonby (1818-1897) a cooper who told everyone he was from Limerick. We have been unable to find his birth/baptism, his parents, or his marriage and hope that DNA can break through this brick wall. We do know that his son Patrick (1839-?) was born in Limerick city. The branch in USA has been thoroughly researched.
What we need is a Ponsonby descendant living in Ireland today who will test their DNA. We would cheerfully pay for the test.
Can anyone help us find such a person?
Many thanks,
Cate

Cate,
This website provides the redistribution of land due to the Cromwellian Settlement in Limerick. Henry Ponsonby is mentioned several times pages 39-41. Perhaps you can find a Ponsonby from one of the townlands mentioned.
