Am seeking help locating my 2nd great grandfather Farrell's family.
My grandmother wrote:
“Farrell Family
John, Thomas, William, James and a
sister whose name I cannot find out
came from Ireland.
They had money and were above the average.
Thomas and William stayed in Yazoo City [Mississippi].
[I am descended from Thomas - more below],
John Farrell lived in Galveston Texas
until 1900, when he moved to San
Antonio, after the hurricane of that
year. His wife [Mary] Ann [Riley] was blind, and
was never satisfied after the storm.
James Farrell and his sister went to
California. He never married, owned a large
cannery which he left to the people with
whom he lived. The sister married and
went to Australia. We have no record of
her name after she married, and no
further record of her, nor James.

Additional information from Ancestry dot com records:
Thomas Farrell [my direct ancestor] married Catherine McKenna in 1852 in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
Thomas and Catherine arrived in New Orleans three days apart in 1848. Thomas arrived on the Lord Seaton from Liverrpool 6 Nov 1848. Catherine arrived 9 Nov 1848 on the George Evans from Liverpool.
In the 1850 Census for New Orleans, Thomas and Catherine were listed separately, both at age 18 and both living in Representative District 3, Thomas was listed as a laborer. Catherine and 8 others from Ireland and one from Scotland (ages 18-35) were living in a home owned by James Mansfield b. Mass, age 45, whose occupation was “Laundry.” An occupation is given only for Mansfield, suggesting that this might have been a residential commercial laundry operation rather than a boarding house.
Records currently on Ancestry.com for James show that the “cannery” was in fact a soda manufacturing (bottling) operation in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California.
From the 1871-1875 Voter Rolls for Nevada County we learn James’ middle name, Alex or Alexander. He died 18 Oct 1874. Inscription on his gravestone in the Masonic Cemetery in Grass Valley, California reads “In Memory of James A Farrell, Died Oct 18 1874, aged 51 years. Native of Dublin, Ireland. “
So I am looking for a Farrell family, probably in Dublin, who by about 1850 were missing 5 teenage kids (4 brothers, one sister).
Any assistance would be appreciated.

In looking at U.S. records that might point toward the Farrells in Irish records, I located a sad notice in the LA Evening Express of 23 Oct. 1874, p. 2, which stated that James A. Farrell took his own life.
