Patrick's great great-great-grandfather John Loughram married Mary Ann McIntyre (McAteer) in Ravensdale, County Louth in January 1964. His parents were Patrick Loughrean and Catherine Hendry and Mary was the daughter of Thomas McIntyre and Mary Cahill.
On arrival in Ireland, they met with local volunteers Geraldine and Dympa.
Message from Margaret and Patrick Houston dated 9th September
We have only just arrived back in Australia after our holiday in Ireland. We had a lovely time and met some wonderful people.
As arranged by you we met up with Dympna and Geraldine in County Louth on the 4th of August the day after our arrival in Ireland.
We had a great day with them both visiting all the old cemeteries in the Ravensdale and Annaverna area trying to find where Patrick’s ancestors were burised.
We couldn’t find the cemetery where the Loughrans and McAteers were located but we did visit the church John Loughran and Mary McAteer were married in – St Mary’s Church Ravensdale in the Lordship Ballymascanlon parish. There was a memorial to the Parish Priest who married them in 1864 on the wall inside the Church. This was amazing to actually go to the Church where they married. Many thanks to Dympna and Geraldine for a lovely day.
