Greetings, This Michael Roddy is my GGGrandfather, father to my GGrandfather Patrick Roddy born in County Westmeath in 1842. They immigrated to America together following Michael Roddy's eldest son John Cormac Roddy to Nebraska City, NE.
I am seeking their place of residence in/near Mullingar, County Westmeath. I have a poem written by John Cormac Roddy in which he describes his homeland.
I am planning a trip to Mullingar in May 2024 to see the geography of my family's origin.

I searched on the subscription site and did not find the 1842 baptismal record for Patrick Roddy with father Michael.
Most of the RC parishes in Co. Westmeath including Mullingar have records starting before 1842. In fact, only two have later starting records.
Do you know the name of the mother of Patrick Roddy? Do you know the year that Patrick and his father emigrated?
If you have not done so already, could you complete this form regarding your 2024 trip. https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet
Thanks!

In Griffith's Valuation of Westmeath in 1854 there was a Michael Roddy:
Roddy Michael Corry townland Rathaspick Co. Westmeath Patricia
-
Michael Roddy's first wife was Ann McCormick and was born in 1797 and died in 1853 in Ireland. Michael and his son Patrick went to America when Patrick was 20 years old in 1862.

So the 1853 Griffiths record that Patricia located is a possibility but Rathaspick civil parish is a good deal to the northwest of Mullingar.

Thank you Patricia and Roger. My family in Ireland had two priests so I can imagine the babies may have been christened at home.
Here's more I found on Familysearch.org. I think I better focus on one person at a time, Ann McCormick. This confirms my first location: Rathispick. However, she is not a Roddy.
Ann McCormick
1797-1853 • 9VC7-1YG
Birth, June 1797 Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland
Christening, June 1797, Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland
Death, 30 May 1853, Rathaspick and Russagh, County Westmeath, Ireland
Other (Tax Assessment), 1823, Kilkenny West, County Westmeath, Ireland
Other (Court), 24 September 1835, County Westmeath, Ireland
Michael Roddy, married first to Ann McCormick (Rathaspick) and his second wife Ellen Ophelia Coffee he married January 25, 1859 was also in Rathaspick, County Westmeath. So at least I know he had serious connections in Rarhaspick. I will go there and taste the water.
I just found this: Michael Roddy (1st) was born in Derry, the Parish of Street, County Westmeath. This needs to be confirmed, since it was written by Lucile Roddy's hand written history of my family.
Thank you,
Dan Roddy

I see, thanks Roger. I misspelled Mullingar a few times.

I uploaded a picture of Patrick Roddy and it looks like the uploader turned it 90 degrees.

I have a problem with the plot map for Perish Rathaspick. Grifiths Valuation shows Michael Roddy as occupier of map reference number 8a. However, when you look at the map of Rathispick Perish the only map references shown are 1a b, 2, 3, and 4a b. What happened to reference numbers 5 through 10?
Any ideas would be a great help.
Best regards,
Dan Roddy
