DNA: Comparison Information

DNA tools, I have used Ancestry, have been brilliant in finding the descendants of my great grandfather's siblings.

Paddy and some cousins left Leitrim in 1878 for New Zealand. His siblings and other cousins or the USA in the years afterwards .

Contact with Ireland through DNA doesn't seem to work so well. Perhaps the uptake is not so great. Maybe the interest isn't mutual.

Also the DNA on other sites seems to tell a very different, more pan European story. I'm not convinced that its true,

Families like mine, from Leitrim, were they there, the people of the land,  for centuries, as happens in England and with Maori in NZ or did the population swirl around in the famine and before?

I see that you have created records for Lawrence and his descendants at Family Search (which is a site that I use a lot), but did you actually mean to say that you did dna testing at Family Tree DNA (FTDNA), rather than at Family Search, because I don't think Family Search does dna testing?  In any case, whether your test results were obtained from FTDNA, Ancestry, or one of the other sites, you should be able to download the "raw data" and then upload it elsewhere (generally for free), especially at the GEDMatch site [https://www.gedmatch.com/], where you can upload it and then the site will find dna matches who tested at other sites.  If you're not sure how to do the downloading or uploading, you can go to the GEDMatcch site and see instructions there for how to do it.  I tested at FTDNA and then uploaded my results at three other sites, and found dna matches in Ireland and the USA through each of them.

I see you received comments from our volunteer, Kevin, and one other person. There is no data base of DNA for people in Ireland who have tested their DNA. The data for anyone in Ireland who has tested their DNA would be resident on the data  base of the company they tested with-- Family Tree DNA, Ancestry, My Heritage etc.

Thank you so much for the information.  Yes, I did mean FTDNA, not Family Search.  I believe that the Administrator of "The DALY Surname Project" does compare our results to those in FTDNA.  I will follow up on the GEDMATCH suggestion.
