  • Meri Low:

From your message, it appears that Christina was not born in Ireland. Was John McKeough born in Ireland? I did not find a John McKeough/Emily Riley marriage in Ireland. McKeough was not a common surname and appears to be mainly in Tipperary, Westmeath and Clare.

Have you considered a general DNA test?

  • Meri Low,

There is an extensive tree on Ancestry with this family documented. It goes back many generations on both sides. It shows that John's parents, Thomas James & Ann Patterson probably emigrated as single persons around 1840. The tree shows information for both of their parents too. Emily's paternal grandfather, Patrick Reid (Reed) AKA Riley came to NSW on a convict ship in 1818...shows he was from Co. Meath.  His wife, Bridget Pendergrast, was born in Australia - her father John was from Dublin. There is too much detail to give on this forum. You might get a trial subscription to Ancestry if you want to view this tree. The specific tree you want to view is the Riley_White family tree by Cherie Lewis from Queenstown.

  • Thank you both so very much for the new information. Roger - Yes I have submitted a DNA test

Carolyn..I have heard so many versions about the departures from Ireland. Yes I agree that they immigrated as single persons.  Patrick has so many names and Brigette had x3 husbands with 6 children to each. It is definitely the family that remained in Ireland I am trying to find. I will certainly have a look at this tree.  My husband and I were in Ireland 3 years ago,  not enough time to do much sadly.  I did get to Passage west.  McKeough is not a common name now in Ireland and everyone I asked couldnt help.  I have a birth cert that says Rush Ireland..now one knows where that is.  Thank you again for your reply. Meri
