Hello, I found some information on the marriage of an ancestor: John Grady and Bridget Hedian. John is my ancestor from Ballintober, Roscommon. The marriage is October 5, 1865 which coincides with baptismal records of his children in Ballintober. It also lists his occupation as a tailor which matches other inforrmation I have found. The discrepancy is the name with his wife Bridget Hayden. The spelling on the record was "Hedian". I also have information on another record with the spelling "Headin". If anyone has any history on this, please contact me.
Thank you,
Laurie (Massachusetts, USA)

Laurie:
It was not unusual to see different spellings of surnames in the 19th century. I don't know about your ancestors in particular but many were illiterate. Also, clerks and other officials in some cases wrote down what they heard from the informant. I can see where Hayden may have sounded like Headin. I believe this is the same person.
