Hi I'm looking for the parents of Bridget Golding, who was born in ballinrobe 1843-44 and died in Liverpool 1906.

I know from a newspaper article relating to a court case she had an uncle called Thomas Sheridan who died in 1893-94 and a cousin named Bridget O'Donnell, who was also the niece of Thomas Sheridan.

I've also got birth certificates of my father's uncles were her surnames is Golding, Sheridan . Her married name was Molloy.

Kind regards

James Healy

The RC baptismal records for Ballinrobe parish start August 20 1843. I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a Bridget Goulding/Golding baptismal record in Ballinrobe. There were no Goulding/Golding baptismal records in Ballinrobe from 1843 on.

Almost all of the nearby RC parishes have baptismal records starting much later than 1843.

I don't think we will find a baptismal record for Bridget.

I also looked at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Mayo. The surname Goulding/Golding was found in Cong civil parish which is nearby to Ballinrobe but the RC parish records start later.

    Have you tested your DNA?

  • James,

Extract from the 1851 Irish census - Cong Parish - Walter Golding seeking details of his age in 1922.

Parents recorded as John Goolden and Catherine Goolden who married in 1835. Record not found for Walter.

    Regards,

    James:

Need to explain the form that McCoy located. The Old Age Pension program went into effect around 1908-1910. To get the pension you needed to be age 70 and have an income that did not exceed a set level. Walter Golding filed a pension application and he asked the government to search for the 1851 census record for his family. The 1851 census records were destroyed in 1922 (July?) during the Irish Civil War. The clerks searched the 1851 census and located the family that Walter listed but Walter was not on the 1851 record meaning he was born after the census was taken. Unfortunately, they did not list the names of the other children of John and Catherine Golding so we don't know if there was a Bridget

The record that McCoy found shows that Kildun as the townland. The Griffiths records I located showed a John Golding in Kildun Beg and also John Golding in Kildun More townland. Likely the same John Golding.

This John could be the father of Bridget but more proof is needed.
