Timothy and Ellen Callaghan

The Timoleague RC parish baptismal records do not begin until 1842.

I searched on the free site irishgenealogy.ie which has church records for the parishes in the Diocese of Cork and Ross including Clonakilty and other parishes in the area. I found four Ellen Callaghan baptismal records between 1825-1835 where the father was Timothy.

The first was in December 1826 in Cork city mother Honora Cashman

Second-June 1827 in Kilmurry with mother Julian Murphy 

Third-Auugust 1833 Tracton Abbey parish mother Mary Hosford

Fourth-January 1835 Enniskeane mother Joan Wholey

Do any of these mother's names look familiar? Are you aware of any siblings to Ellen? If the family was from Timoleague we won't find records unless there was a child born 1842 or later.

I have another Ellen Callaghan with father Timothy and mother Johanna Leonard for Glentagh Cork birth year 1830.

I will look into your entries. I have done dna tests but none link to Callaghan.

I have a 3x great grandad on my dad’s side from Louth/ Dublin via Liverpool  as well. Callaghan being a common name doesn’t help me!

I know the Barry family living at same address were from Timoleague as her children are registered born there. Can you see a link between Catherine Barry nee Cleary or John Barry and Ellen Callaghan?/Timothy Callaghan?

Searching for RC church records in Co. Cork is unusual. Records for parishes in the Diocese of Cork and Ross are available for free on the site mentioned earlier. RC parishes in the Diocese of Cloyne generally in the north and East of the county are only available on a subscription site like Roots Ireland, Ancestry.com and FindMyPast.ie   I searched on Roots Ireland and found Ellen Callaghan baptismal records father Timothy in 1829 1830 1831 1832 1833 1835 (one each year) including the record you highlighted. None of those records had a Barry surname for a sponsor.

I went back to irishgenealogy.ie and searched for a marriage between a John Barry and a Catherine Cleary. I found a marriage in Clonakilty February 24 1857, Is that too late. I didn't know which census record showed the Callaghans and Barrys living together.

I was hoping to find Catherine Barry’s mother’s name and John Barry’s mother’s name to see if it’s Callaghan.

I have checked the baptisms you gave apart from the 1831 and 1832 ones you mention for Ellen Callaghan with father as Timothy. I can’t locate those!
