They have 4 chiodren (b 1850-1857) , Hannah , Timothy , Bridget and John Timothy . Cheers from Tim Murphy  🇦🇺

Appears there are two possible families.

The subscription site Roots Ireland shows four baptismal records for children of Timothy Murphy and Margaret Casey in Donoughmore: Mary 1845 Maurice 1848 Johanna 1851 John baptized February 22 1857. They lived in Goulane. So two of the four names match

This Timothy and Margaret married February 22 1844 at Donoughmore.

The other family was Timothy Murphy and Margaret Mahoney married January 31 1855 at Inniscarra church.

Timothy 1855 John 1858 Johanna 1861 Bridget 1863. This family lived in Fornaght, All four names match.

    Which family?

  • Roger , I cannot thank you enough . I will be eternally indebted to you as Margaret is the last of the 16 2GGP to be identified . I can now categorically tell my first and second cousins our 2GGM unequivocal full name . Does the extract you found list  parents of both Timothy and Margaret and occupations of both fathers ? Can I assume Margaret hails from Iniscarra as the tendency is for marriages to take place in the bride’s home town? My next task is to find out whether Margaret o’Mahony ‘s father , Sean married a great aunt of the Michael Collins , Bridget Collins ?? Can you send me Link to said marriage extract? Does it list Timothy’s birthplace as Bunkilla farm Fornacht via Donoughmore , Cork ?? Sorry for barrage of Q& A! I am exuberant !!! Cheers from Melbourne , Australia , Tim Murphy

This link should take you to the Inniscarra parish register for early 1855. The Timothy Murphy/Mary Mahoney marriage is the second record on the left hand side.

Church marriage extracts do not show the years of birth of the bride and groom nor do they show parents names or the occupations. Yes, Margaret would have attended the Inniscarra parish church. Inniscarra is the RC parish just south of Donoughmore.

I searched the Inniscarra baptismal records on the subscription site Roots Ireland and found a Margaret Mahony baptism on August 19 1823 in Inniscarra. Father was John Mahony and mother Bridget Collins. They lived in a place named Burns (transcribed by Roots Ireland).

Here is the link to the parish register and it is very faint and hard to read.   https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634085#page/30/mode/1up

  • Roger , you are indeed a font ! I cannot thank you enough .I cannot find village / parish of Burns in Iniscarra ? Is it farm , hamlet , village or parish under Iniscarra? Does it still exist ? I now need to find exact  DoD and burial location for Margaret between 1870-2 around Fornaght . I will now trawl said parish records for any siblings born btw 1814-1830. I’ve written off to Skibereen House in Clonakilty to ask for extensive family tree of The Michael Collins to see whether Bridget Collins is aunt or great aunt of MC? I’m assuming John Mahoney /y would have been born between 1780-1795 and Bridget between 1795-1805? Eternally grateful , TM

Siblings-- Mary 1816 Michael 1817 Jeremiah 1821 (likely died young) Cornelius 1825 Jeremiah 1827

I don't know if the spelling of Burns is correct. The Roots Ireland transcriber showed Burns. There is a large townland called Berrings in Inishcarra civil parish so maybe that is what the priest wrote.

  • Roger , if you live anywhere near Cork City , I’d like to buy you a drink or two when I’m next over from Australia perhaps in 2024/25. I’ve now got a lot to go on- I’m finding it hard to decipher the writing at the time - I too trawled  through same parish register and only found last two siblings but erroneously thought  they stood for Matthew and William ? On one if the the sponsors are William and Ellen Mahoney - John’s parents or either and sister - in - law ? I’ve only found one Margaret Mahoney born in 1823 who died in Cork city in 1873. So would she Hebe been buried at st Finbars cemetery the former Cork City Botanic Gardend or transported to Iniscarra or Berrings for burial in family plot ? Can I assume John is farmer ? Thank you , o sage ? Tim Murphy

It might help if your prepared a new message for your Murphys in Cork and another message for the O'Neill family. There may be other volunteers who might be more  knowledgeable than me in those areas.
