Mary Angela:
I located the civil birth record for David who was born on December 24 1884 at Maclone which must be near the town of Rosenallis in Co. Laois. See ninth record at the link. NOTE the 1869 civil marriage record showed that Thomas Ryan was from Maclone Rosenallis Co. Laois so the family settled there not in Co. Offaly.
I also searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and found a birth record for a William Ryan in 1871, a Susan Martha Constance Ryan in 1873 followed by Maria Elizabeth in 1880 John Thomas 1883 David 1884 Kate 1886 Francis 1890 Fanny 1891. A record for Patrick did not come up.
If you have not done so already, could your or your brother complete this form about his trip https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet

Hello Roger,
Thank you for the quick reply. I did type in the wrong location of Offaly for Thomas Ryan His mother, Elizabeth Bryan Ryan, was married in parish of Geashill, Offaly on 26-Oct-1869.
I do have the Thomas Ryan came from Rosenallis in County Laois. Thank you again for the information on David's year of birth date as well as the others.
Once my brother firms up his trip dates, I will come back and complete the meet and greet form information.
I am very appreciative of the information you have provided.
Regards,
Mary Angela

Hi Mary Angela,
I have been to Laois and Offaly many times, so would like to recommend some things for your brother to see there.
In Emo, Co. Laois, are Emo House and Gardens. You can tour the house, maybe see an exhibit there, and take a walk around the lake. Also have something to eat in the tea rooms.
The Rock of Dunamase, an old Norman fortress near Portlaoise.
Round tower at Timahoe.
Heywood Gardens, Ballinakill
Donaghmore Workhouse Museum
Slieve Bloom Mountains
Gash Gardens
Mountmellick town, founded by Quakers
Also, there's a Laois author named Tom Phelan. He's written many novels plus a memoir about growing up in Laois.
Offaly
Tullamore
Royal Canal--walk along the canal path
Geashill town
I hope this is helpful.

Hello Roger and Patricia,
Thank you both!!! for your wonderful information.
I am wondering how I could find living relatives in the Rosenallis area if I wasn't visiting Ireland?
Thank you.

Mary Angela:
I searched the 1901 census for Rosenallis and the townlands around the town. There were no Ryans in the town at that time. Possibly a sister of Thomas may have married and stayed in the area but that would require a lot of research work, Have you or your brother tested your DNA? You may get matches with third cousins who more info on the family and where descendants live today. Likely most are in the USA.

Hello Roger,
Forgive me in advance but I'm a bit confused -
1. I'm looking at the birth registration civil records for both Kate and David Ryan. Under the column Date and Place of Birth it shows the word Maclone under their birth dates. I've attached David's birth registration record.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…
2. In the marriage registration for their father Thomas Ryan, it shows Residence at time of Marriage to be Maclone Parish of Rosenallis. Here is my confusion - Maclone and Rosenallis are about 50km from each other.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
Should I make a conclusion that they lived in the general area between these two locations?
Thank you.

Mary Angela:
I went on Ancestry. com and found the 1900 census record for Thomas Ryan and his family living at 2343 Wilder St. in the Grays Ferry section in southwest Philadelphia. The actual record is somewhat faint but does show Thomas age 55, Elizabeth 44, John 16, Kate 14, David 13, Francis 9, Fanny 8 and the Patrick I could not find age 5. Susan Ryan, age 65, an older sister to Thomas was also living with the family. Thomas died February 19 1904.
I also located a death record for Francis who died August 6 1963. He was married and wife was Ella.

Mary Angela:
Not sure where you found Maclone but the Maclone on the various records above would be a local placename around the town of Rosenallis.
See this recent real estate listing https://propertypriceregisterireland.com/details/maclone_rosenallis_co_laois_ireland-467794/
You may have picked up another Maclone in Co. Offaly.

Hello Roger,
And again, thank you for the information. I think I need to search more data records so I can confirm the correct location. I can only go by the information on my great grandfather's marriage registration.

Hello Roger,
I've discovered that my grandfather Thomas Ryan was in Mucklone, between Castlebrack and Mountmellick. I found that his father, William Ryan died 8-Jan-1895 in Mucklone at the age of 97 from heart disease. His daughter, Susan was present. HIs death was registered in Moutmellick 25-Feb-1895. So that connects this William Ryan to the Susan Ryan we know went to the US and was on the 1900 US census.
I have been searching for his grave site in Mountmellick or even Laois county and cannot find it. Would it be possible you have access to this information?
Thank you very much.

Mary Angela:
Mountmellick was the registration district for all the civil parishes (14) in North Co. Laois and even covered a couple civil parishes in South Co. Offaly. So the fact that the death was registered in Mountmellick is not relevant to your situation. Likely William was buried in an unmarked grave in Rosenallis cemetery. I'm guessing Susan was taking care of him in his older years and once he passed Susan emigrated.
Here is the link to the web site for St. Brigid's church in Rosenallis. Maybe you can e-mail and see if someone in the parish office can help. http://www.rosenallis.org/churches/catholic_church.htm

People from Malone, probably Muclone in 1800's. Malone is approx 5Km from Rosenallis village and similar distance from Mountmellick town and Killeigh village in County Offaly.
In my time 50's to date, no family name Ryan lived in Malone but still a Mahon Lady {now Lynch) whose family go back a good few generations.
All people during my time, when deceased are interned in Clonaghadoo cemetery about 3Km east from Malone and in the parish of Mountmellick.
