Thomas Cull married Katherine Murray. They had Michael Cull born in Sept 21, 1836 in “Baltimore” Ireland. Michael immigrated to the US at some point. He died Sept 2nd 1925 of influenza in Chandler, Oklahoma.  Any info on Thomas, Katherine or Michael would be greatly appreciated

In an obituary in the The Chandler News-Publicist (11 Sep 1925, Fri · Page 1), it says that Michael was born in County Leitrim “near the little town of Baltimore.”  I’m not able to find such a town in Leitrim. There IS a Baltimore in Co. Cork.  Perhaps the newspaper had a typo or someone gave the paper the wrong info.

This paper can be seen at newspapers.com; you need a subscription. I was not able to copy it here.

The subscription site Roots Ireland has an April 10 1841 baptismal record for an Elizabeth Cull with father Thomas Cull and mother Catherine Murray. The record was in the Kiltubbrid RC parish which borders Outeragh/Ballinamore parish. Records for Kiltubbrid start in 1841 but there is a gap until 1847 when records resume.

    Records for Outeragh/Ballinamore also start in 1841.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0173   https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0816

I searched the Tithe listings for Co. Leitrim and there were eight Cull records. One of the eight was a Thomas Cull listed in Caldragh within Kiltubbrid civil parish. See the bottom of this form at the link. Thomas Cull is shown with a few other farmers leasing 16 acres of land.

Possibly this is your ancestor. Names of townlands were standardized around 1851. There is no Caldragh in Kiltubbrid civil parish at this time. There is a Caldragh in the neighboring civil parish of Kiltoghert.

  • Wow, Rodger! I’m sure this is my Thomas! I can’t thank you enough for searching on my behalf!  Any thoughts on finding Thomas’s parents? Thanks so much!

There are no available church records so finding a baptismal record for Thomas would not be possible.
