Hello,

My mom, the former Mary Harrison of Tullycooley, Dromahair, County Leitrim, had a brother Michael Harrison, born around 1928. My mom, born 1923, immigrated to NY. Her brother Patrick also immigrated to NY, her other brother John immigrated to England. She lost total touch with her brother Michael once she immigrated. She never knew what happened with him. I would love to know- Did Michael stay in Ireland? Immigrate? Was he married? Have any children? anything.... Any info that I could get, I would appreciate it greatly!! I have been trying to find out any information on him for years, but I have not gotten anywhere (If this helps- one of my mom's cousins was Vincent Harrison, the talented fiddle player).

  • The free site irishgenealogy.ie has civil marriage records thru 1947 and death records thru 1972. I did not see a good lead for your Michael Harrison in the reords available.

  • Thank you so much Roger for looking!! I believe I have looked at that site, but will keep checking it. I cannot find one bit of info on Michael, other than his birth. I should have started looking many years ago when there perhaps were other relatives alive who might know something, but at that time I was not interested in genealogy like I am now. I am always wondering if I have first cousins somewhere and would love to connect. Hopefully I will get some leads or info sometime soon! Thanks again! Maureen

    The Civil birth index for the District of Manorhamilton has two Michael Harrison for 1928.

    1. Mother: Gilmartin 2. Mother: Kelly.

    It would be helpful if you included the names of your grandparents. If you have not done so, you might get marriage and baptismal records from their church. They will show Witnesses to the marriage and Baptismal Sponsors.

    Baptismal records are not online due to a hundred year restriction.

    My Uncle Michael's dad/my mom's dad was Patrick Harrison (d 1931), their mom was the former Annie Kelly (d 1951). Married 1922, Ballinmagar, Dromahair. Michael's full name on the birth certificate- Michael J Harrison, born in April, May, or June 1928. Birth was registered June, 1928. That is the extent of my findings on Michael. I thought the J in his name could be helpful, but I just can't seem to find anything further info that might fit. Thanks for helping!!

  • Hi Maureen,

    I have been working on my family tree recently and I believe that I am a distant relative of yours, I will try and find out what I can on Michael if possible and let you know. I would suggest putting a message on the Dromahair fb group as I did that recently and got success that way, lots of people that grew up in the area are on there that would know your family including a number of Harrisons.
