Hello,
I live in the US and this is my first time posting to your website. I'm super-excited to have found it!
I am looking to confirm the parents of my 4th great grandmother, Judith Dolphin. I know that Judith married Owen Finnerty on 14 Jan 1837 in Loughrea Parish; I think she was born abt 1812. I’m wondering if her parents might be James Dolphin & Mary Farrell?
The earliest baptism records for Leitrim Parish I find start in 1815, just a few years after Judith’s birth. James Dolphin & Mary Farrell had the following children baptized in Leitrim Parish: James I (b 1816), Mary (b 1817), Margaret (b 1819), James II (b 1821), Mary (b 1824); and Patrick (b 1828).
Patrick Dolphin was a sponsor (at the baptism) of Judith’s daughter Maria Finnerty; and Margaret Dolphin was a sponsor (at the baptism) of Judith’s daughter Bridget Finnerty. (I’m assuming these sponsors were Judith’s siblings.)
A tree on familyhistory.com shows both James Dolphin and Mary Farrel being born in Kilcooly, Galway abt 1777, and being married there around 1800. (that seems like a big gap of 12 years until Judith was supposedly born in 1812 - maybe they had other children in that span?). I’m treating these as clues to follow up on.
Can anyone help me find the birth record for Judith Dolphin? Or can you provide a contact for the RC church in Kilcooly? And any other info on James Dolphin & Mary Farrell?
I found James Dolphin on the Griffin Valuation in Loughrea Union, Abbeygormacan Parish, and townland of Ballyfintan. He had house, office & land; 19 acres. Is that nearby? Having never been to Ireland, it's hard for me to understand distances particularly back in the 1800s.
Thank you in advance for any help! I do plan to visit Ireland this fall, and I'm hoping to be able to visit some of the townlands of my ancestors. -dawn

Hello Dawn,
I have left a message for a nearby parish to see if we can get anymore information for you. You mentioned that you were visiting Ireland in the fall - did you manage to visit the area of your ancestors?
Kind regards,
