Looking for info about my 2x great grandfather, Denis Hurley. His civil marriage registration on January 25, 1872 to my 2x great grandmother, Mary Herlihy, lists his father as Patrick Hurley and address as Bandon Rd. Denis and Mary were married at St Finbarr and I have their church marriage record. They had 5 children in Ireland before emigrating to Chicago in 1881 and having 4 more children: Agnes, Nelly, Katherine and Dennis Thomas. The five children born in Cork City, Ireland were Eleanora (b.1872), Hannah (b.1874), Patrick (b.1876 d.1877 from croup), Mary Gertrude (my great-grandmother b.1878) and Thomas (b.1879). I have all of the children’s baptismal records from St. Finbarr. The family moved around a lot. Addresses listed in the children’s civil birth records are: 90 Bandon Rd, 55 Bandon Rd (where my great-grandmother was born), 20 Fuller’s Lane and 11 Denroche’s Cross. Denis’s death certificate lists place of birth as Ireland and parents were Patrick Hurley and Nora Collun (spelling error and believe it to be Collins). Any help finding Denis’s baptismal record or place of birth would be much appreciated. I have done Ancestry DNA and have matched with 3 distant (5th-8th cousins) Hurleys and several Collins (5-8th cousins).

I searched the free site irishgenealogy.ie and there were five Denis Hurley baptismal records with father Pat. Two of the five had a mother named Catherine Collins. I know you have Nora but I only located Catherine records. Roots Ireland did not have any leads but their records only include parishes in the Diocese of Cloyne.

Thanks! I have spent hours searching Ancestry, Family Search, NLI.ie, FindMyPast, Roots Ireland and I find nothing. The 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 US Census lists his birth as June 1850. He may have had a sister names Julia as a Julia Hurley was the baptismal sponsor of his first child. One of the daughters born in Chicago has a baptismal sponsor listed as Daniel Hurley. I’m positive that his mother’s name was Nora or Hanora as he and my 2x great grandmother followed the Irish naming conventon with all of their children.

I located a helpful lead namely the likely baptismal record for Julia Hurley in Ballinhassig RC parish. There was also a sister Ellen baptized in November 1835 same parents and same church.
